About ASP

Why ASP exists.

We built ASP to give young athletes the sports science support, structure and guidance they need to develop properly in their sport.

Sean, Sports Director at ASP Sports Science

The founder idea

I built the sports science support I wish I had growing up.

Sean · Sports Director · Established 2004

Many athletes grow up being told to train harder, run more, push more and compete more — without anyone properly looking at how they move, where they are weak, what technique is limiting them, or what may increase injury risk.

ASP was created to change that. Not more random training. A clearer understanding of the athlete — then a structured plan to develop them.

The problem

Most young athletes do not need more random training.

They need a clearer understanding of what is holding them back.

Parents often know their child has potential — but they are not sure what is missing. It could be speed, agility, strength, movement quality, coordination, running mechanics, confidence, injury risk, or recovery.

Training without data is guesswork. ASP exists to take that guesswork out of the process — and give aspiring and developing athletes a smarter path forward.

What makes ASP different

Not a gym. Not random drills. Sports science-led athlete development.

  • 01

    We assess first.

Before we train, we test and observe how the athlete moves — so development starts with facts, not guesswork.

  • 02

    We coach technique.

We teach athletes how to sprint, cut, accelerate, decelerate and move with more control.

  • 03

    We build safely.

Movement quality, strength, coordination and injury-risk reduction come before chasing higher performance.

  • 04

    We develop over time.

True athlete development is a process, not a quick fix. We stay with the athlete as they grow.

The ASP method

Assess. Understand. Coach. Develop. Progress.

  1. 01

    Assess

A Sports Science Assessment to identify strengths, weaknesses and development priorities.

  2. 02

    Understand

Results, movement patterns and video — so we can see what the athlete needs next.

  3. 03

    Coach

Sports science principles used to teach better movement, better technique and better control.

  4. 04

    Develop

Speed, agility, strength, mobility, coordination and confidence through structured training.

  5. 05

    Progress

We track improvement and help the athlete keep developing safely and consistently.

For parents

For parents who want to give their child the best chance.

ASP is not about pushing children too hard, or treating every athlete like a professional. It is about giving each athlete the right support for their age, stage and goals.

Whether your child wants to make the A team, improve their speed, return from injury, build confidence, or simply understand how to move better — ASP gives them a clearer path forward.

We build the athlete behind the sport.

Since 2004

Built on experience.

ASP has been developing athletes in Johannesburg since 2004— from young developing athletes through school, academy and professional environments.

Recovery

Performance and recovery work together.

Our Recovery Lounge supports athletes who need to recover, reset and prepare for the next session, match, tournament or training block. Sports science-backed — used with a reason, not as a gadget.

Start here

Start with understanding the athlete.

The first step is not a training programme. The first step is the Sports Science Assessment — so we can understand how the athlete moves, where they are strong, what needs attention, and what the next step should be.
