Assessment
What does a sports science assessment actually tell you?
A sports science assessment gives you a snapshot of where you are right now. It helps you understand what you are doing well, where development may be needed and what deserves attention next. For us, that is the starting point. Understand first. Develop second.

You get a performance baseline
Without a starting point, it is difficult to know whether something has actually improved. An assessment gives us information across important areas of athletic performance such as speed and acceleration, agility and multi-directional movement, strength and power, body control, movement mechanics and biomechanics.
Together, these create a much broader view of the athlete.
It isn't only about finding weaknesses
This is something we believe strongly at ASP. Assessment should also identify strengths. If an athlete is already exceptionally strong in a particular quality, our job isn't necessarily to 'fix' it. Sometimes the opportunity is to turn that strength into an even greater competitive advantage.
We look beyond the number
The score tells us what happened. Movement and video analysis can help explain why it happened. How does the athlete run? Where are they placing force? What happens through their gait? Are there movement inefficiencies? Are there areas that deserve more attention? That extra context is important.
What we commonly see at ASP
Parents often arrive believing they already know the problem. 'My child needs more fitness.' 'They need to get stronger.' 'They're just slow.'
Sometimes they are correct. Sometimes the assessment tells a completely different story. That is exactly why we assess.
What about injury?
No assessment can tell you with certainty whether an athlete will or won't get injured. What we can do is identify physical imbalances, movement patterns and other factors that may deserve attention. That information can then help guide better training decisions.
The most important part comes after testing
At ASP, we don't believe the value is in handing someone a report full of numbers. The value comes from explaining what those numbers mean.
Your assessment is analysed and compiled into an individual report. We then meet with you online to go through the results, identify your priorities and discuss an action plan.
How ASP approaches it
The science doesn't stay in the report.
You should leave understanding: where am I now? What am I good at? What needs attention? What should I do next?
The science doesn't stay in the report.
You should leave understanding where you are, what you're good at, what needs attention and what to do next.
